another great week has come and gone

Monday, September 22, 2014

This week has been great. This week we had a big meeting with a bunch of zones and it was way fun. We played games and learned about how to help others accept the gospel better. I also got to see a bunch of my friends from the CCM, so that was a gaint plus.

Yesterday I had to give my first talk in church. It was a gaint train wreck. It would have been a great talk in the CCM, but in the ¨big leagues¨ it didn´t go so well. I’m pretty sure that the people had no idea what I was saying. But that’s alright because I can only improve from here on out.

The taxi and bus drivers here are crazy!! They all have modified buses and taxis with body work ¨improvements”… A couple of days ago I was standing on the bus because it was full and the bus driver thought that he was a Nascar driver. He was accelerating into the turns. It was a crazy and funny experience.

The people in my district are awesome. Today for pday we did some service this morning and then after the hermanas made some food for us. It was awesome. We all get along pretty well and they are great missionaries.

The language is still coming slow and there are some times when it can be extremely frustrating. But even though I don’t always know what they are saying and there are times when I say this big long statement and they have a look of confusion on their face, I love the work.

It’s those times when families are becoming closer to Christ that makes this thing so worth it. My testimony is so much stronger and I am also so much closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Hope all is well!!!
Love,
Elder Wagstaff

Mom –  I had the chance to talk to Elder S’s mom this week. She sounds like a great lady and that he comes from a fabulous family. Like me, she appreciates her son having you for a companion (like I appreciate him as your comp). It was a great conversation! I love you SO much!

A – glad you could talk with s’s mom. that kid is awesome

Mom – It sounds like the two of you were a perfect match for each other. Such a good way to start out your mission experience.

So I did a little research on ties. Turns out you are doing a great job with them. Did you know, according to GQ and other reputable sources, that the bottom where it is the widest should fall at the top of your belt, so that the tip is just below that? From all of the pics I’ve seen, your ties look perfect! Way to go!

Today looked like a cooker…91 degrees but felt like 105! How are you adjusting to the heat?

A – The weather is so HOT. Today we were moving cement blocks for service and i was just dripping. It was bad. But im glad that i made a good choice.

another great week in paradise

I am always hot here. I am sweating so much and I always feel like I am sticky. The humidity here is so crazy. When I first stepped off the plane, I felt like I couldn`t breathe. But I know pretty soon I will be used to it.

This week for our service, we cleaned out a half drained pool. It was so much work and so tiring. The water was terrible. But I love giving service.

Today was like Christmas for me. We got to go to McDonalds!!! It was so good. Even though I’ve only been in Nica for 2 weeks, I already miss American food. It was so nice to eat something real.

Nobody here can get my name right. For whatever reason ‘Wagstaff’ is the hardest name in the world here. When I introduce myself they begin to say my name and then just start laughing. It’s pretty entertaining. So a lot of people in the ward just call me ‘Elder What`s Up’.

This week I had the amazing experience of witnessing my first baptism here. The girl’s name is Ashley and it was such a spiritual experience. I felt the spirit so amazingly strong. It is such a great experience to see families becoming closer through the gospel. I know that this gospel is true and it blesses lives, that through this gospel families become stronger. It’s these kind of experiences that make the hard days so worth it.

I love my mission and there is no other place in the world I would rather be.

Mom – I am so so happy to get your email! I loved it! How are you?

A – Things are great. I got the letter this week on 9-10.

Mom – Yay! You got the written ones? From all of us?

How are your nights? Are you able to sleep with the heat?

A – Yes the written one.

The nights are ok because we have fans.

Mom – That’s good. I mailed four letters…one from each of us.

How are the mosquitoes? Liz saw a huge, fast spider in the road last night. It looked like a tarantula, but with longer legs. How is the other wildlife?

A – I haven’t really seen much. We have lizards in our house but they’re good because they eat all the bugs. But it really isn’t bad where I am staying. I pretty much am staying in the ritz of nicaragua.

Mom – Wow! Send a pic of your interior. I’d love to see more.

How is the language coming?

A – This is my last email, but I will for sure take pics and send them. The language is slow but I know I just need to work harder.

Love you so much.

Remind me to talk about my camera next week. It’s not a big deal and everything is fine.

Love, your son

I AM IN NICARAGUA!!!!
This is such a crazy experience being here. I AM A FISH OUT OF WATER!!! They did not teach me this language in the CCM.

There have been so many times when I will be walking down the street and I will just start smiling because I am so amazingly clueless about what is going on. I am in a quad companionship. All of them are from Latin America. This week we had a planning meeting and for seriously 2 hours I just sat there not knowing anything that was coming out of their mouths. It was crazy. But they are all so awesome and patient with me.

This country is so amazing. The people are so nice. There have been so many times when we will go up to someone on the street and start talking to them and I think to myself that most people in the states wouldn`t give us the time of day.

Its pretty crazy how fast the roads can go from paved, to cobble stone, to dirt. This country is beautiful. I love this country!!

We live in a pretty nice house. I dont have a lot of complaints besides the fact that the people that we rent the house from sell fish. So everyday we come home to that “awesome“ smell.

I have already learned to love the food here. I think it is so good. I dont know what it will be like in a year from now but I love it so much.

Yesterday was fast sunday and I thought I was going die. I didnt understand what was going on in church and I was so amazingly thirsty. It was so hard to concentrate.

Today we went to a lake for PDay. I was so tempted to jump in. I miss boating so much. But the lake was awesome. The people in my district are great and we all get along pretty well.

I have learned a lot being here but I still have so much more to learn.
I am glad to be a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I love this work so much.
Love you all so much!!!!

A – ya i trying to teach people. its just mostly testifying at the end of the lesson because most of the time i have not a clue of what is going on because they talk so fast.

Mom – What are you liking most?

A – teaching real people

Mom – That is so cool. You are really doing this! It is awesome. What are you eating?

A – a lot of rice and beans also some meat and bread

Mom – That sounds great. How has your stomach been doing?

What is the weather doing? Every time I check my app it is like 70-80 percent humidity. Also, I noticed the sun sets and rises earlier in Nica. Is it noticeable?
